Steamboat quay – T-junction before Lilla Jolpan via the hostel
750 meters
At the steamboat quay walk straight ahead on the gravel road, past the restaurant and the summer shop. Slight incline.
After about 375 meters and a small downhill, there is a bay with a guest harbor on the left. Just after the intersection, SAT enters the trail on some rocky slabs to the left.
If you continue straight on the gravel road, you will reach a sign pointing left to the hostel after just 100 meters.
We take the small trail. It ascends slightly and is about 60 meters long. It leads you to the gravel area in front of the hostel.
At the southern corner of the hostel (the farthest one), SAT continues onto a slightly wider trail, descending with a rock on the left side.
After just 100 meters, you will reach a SAT sign. From here, the trail either turns left to go around southern Jolpan or you can skip this section and go right, westward.
We go left (eastward) around Lilla Jolpan.
Lilla Jolpan Loop
2.1 km Technical section
From the sign, the trail continues for about 60 meters to an old high ropes course. SAT veers slightly right (southward) over bare rocky slabs. If you take the left trail, after just over 100 meters, you will reach a lookout tower, which is well worth a visit. You can then continue on SAT.
From the bare rocky slab, the trail enters the path in the upper right (southern) corner. A gentle descent before crossing a wooden bridge.
On the southern side of the bridge, the trail forks after about 50 meters. Follow the markers along the left (eastern) trail.
This trail leads you south through beautiful forest with occasional sea views.
After about 700 meters from the bridge, the trail continues straight over a rocky section instead of turning right. Here, you descend through a technical section and then follow the trail more westward until you reach the southern tip of Lilla Jolpan. This spot is stunning, and you will find a wind shelter.
From here, SAT turns north and follows the western coast of Lilla Jolpan back to the wooden bridge and then back to the sign at the T-junction. From there, it’s just over 100 meters back up to the hostel.
SAT continues straight (to the right if facing the sign) westward.
T-junction – Sindra’s Trail
800 meters Slightly technical at the beginning
From the T-junction, SAT follows the trail along the water on your left. After about 300 meters, the trail turns north along a pasture. Here, it becomes more of a forest road than a trail, leading you to a gravel road.
At the gravel road, turn left, westward. Walk on the left side to see oncoming traffic.
After 300 meters, you reach an intersection where the gravel road turns right along the pasture.
If you go straight, you will reach the campsite.
Turn right and follow the gravel road for almost 70 meters.
At an opening in the fence on the left, enter the pasture. This is where Sindra’s Trail begins.
If you continue straight on the gravel road instead of taking Sindra’s Trail, you will reach the next section at the sandy beach in “Paradisviken.”
Sindra’s Trail to “Paradisviken”
1.1 km
Enter the pasture. There may be grazing animals, so keep dogs on a leash. The trail follows the path through the pasture into the forest. It may be a bit wet in the spring. The trail heads south.
After about 400 meters, you reach a trail junction. SAT turns right. If you go left, you will find a wind shelter about 200 meters away.
As mentioned, SAT turns right and then curves north along a beautiful trail, over rocky slabs, with the water to the left.
You cross a volleyball net and walk along the cliff edge to the SAT sign at the far end of the bay, just before the sandy beach.
From here, SAT continues left, westward, around Idholmen.
You can also turn right onto the gravel road back to the hostel (600 m) or to the steamboat quay and restaurant (1 km).
If you plan to use the rowboats to get to Ingmarsö along the Boat Hiking Trail (SAT), continue left, westward, toward Idholmen.
We continue on SAT around Idholmen.
Sandy beach in Paradisviken – Idholmen loop via the farm
3 km
From the SAT sign, head west on the gravel road, past the sandy beach and kayak rental. Walk on the left side of the gravel road to see oncoming traffic.
The gravel road curves north. Follow it for about 400 meters until you reach a T-junction.
Here, you can choose to walk around northern Idholmen via the farm (right) on SAT or take the shorter way back (left, westward). This is also the closest way to the rowboats.
We go right, towards the farm, on the gravel road. It’s about 100 meters to the next Y-junction. You walk with the forest on the right and a pasture on the left.
Turn right at the Y-junction. A gentle downhill towards the farm. There is a farm shop where you can buy locally produced goods.
At the farm, SAT turns left into the farmyard in front of the house. It may feel a bit strange, but keep right immediately after turning off the gravel road. SAT follows the forest edge on a trail about 30 meters above the water.
Then, the markings become easier to follow, leading along a technical trail by the sea. You always have the sea on your right.
You pass the area where strawberries were once grown and transported by boat to Stockholm.
This section from the farm back to the Y-junction where you previously turned off to the farm is incredibly beautiful. It runs through sparse forest and along a technical trail. There are many great spots to stop and enjoy the northern view.
After about 600 meters from the farm, you reach the gravel road again. Now head south. Pass pastures and the Y-junction, keeping the farm below on the left.
After about 300 meters on the gravel road, you reach the previous T-junction.
To return to the hostel and restaurant, turn left down the gravel road.
To reach the rowboats or complete the SAT section, go straight/slightly right on the gravel road, past some cottages. The road transitions into a forest path leading to a meadow. Here, SAT ascends into the forest along the forest road. If you turn right (north), you will find a nice barbecue spot.
We continue on SAT, up the forest road with a fence on the right.
You arrive at an open forest meadow. The rowboats to Ingmarsö are straight ahead, westward.
SAT continues here either to Ingmarsö via the rowboats or back to the hostel and restaurant at the steamboat quay.
We follow SAT southward across the forest meadow to a fence. Go through the gate and close it behind you.
Follow SAT southward with the water on your right until you reach a headland, “Pojkarnas Udde.” Here, you will find two nice barbecue spots.
From the headland, SAT follows the coast eastward until you reach the gravel road by a pasture. Turn right on the gravel road, eastward, towards the sandy beach and into Paradisviken.
Paradisviken – Steamboat quay
1.2 km
Follow the gravel road eastward. After about 100 meters, SAT turns onto a trail to the left, northward.
If you continue straight on the gravel road, you will reach the hostel in 500 meters or the steamboat quay in 1 km.
We follow the SAT trail onto the path to the left, heading north.
It ascends gently. Then, you cross a long boardwalk before continuing with a slight uphill through the forest.
From where you enter the trail to where you emerge onto a smaller gravel road, it is 400 meters. On this smaller gravel road, turn right and follow it past a grassy area and a barn until you reach the gravel road by the guest harbor (just under 200 meters), which you passed earlier.
From this point, the hostel is 150 meters to the right (south). The steamboat quay and the restaurant are about 350 meters to the left (northeast), just beyond a short hill.
Enjoy something delicious at the restaurant before you continue your journey!
