We have marked SAT Ornö in two different directions, starting from Hässelmara quay. The purpose is to create two separate day stages, both ending at Ornö Church. Of course, you can choose to walk the whole section as a loop, but at some point, you will be walking against the directional arrows. In that case, follow the “line” on the interactive map.
Hässelmara quay – Ornö Church (Northward)

NORTHWARD FROM HÄSSELMARA QUAY
Hässelmara Quay to Ornöboda Junction
5.8 km
When you step off the boat at Hässelmara quay, you will see the bus stop in front of you on the right-hand side. From there, you can take the bus to Lättinge via Ornö Church and Sundby Gård. The bus also goes north to Skinnardal before turning south again.
But we will walk instead.
Walk up the short asphalt hill to the T-junction, where the road either heads south toward Ornö Church or north toward Skinnardal.
We walk north on the asphalt road to Skinnardal. Walk on the left side of the road so that you can see oncoming traffic. Be careful.
The asphalt road from the jetty to Skinnardal is about 2 km. At Skinnardal, pass through the barrier and continue on the gravel road. This section is a beautiful stretch through the forest.
This part is not marked with yellow/blue signs. You will see the markings about 3.8 km from the jetty.
After about 3.5 km from Skinnardal, you will reach a T-junction. To the left (north), there is a sign for Orninge. To the right, a yellow/blue arrow points toward Svinåker and Ornöboda. Turn right, heading south.
After about 100 meters, you will reach the Svinåker sign. Turn left onto the gravel road instead of continuing straight toward the houses. This is important!
Follow the yellow/blue markings to the barns. Walk straight between the buildings. Be aware that there may be animals and vehicles around, so be cautious and always keep your dog on a leash. South of the farm buildings, go through the fence. CLOSE THE GATE behind you, even if it was open when you arrived.
Follow the tractor tracks to the left, heading east across the field to the small wooded area. There, enter a pasture—close the gate behind you—walk through the pasture (there may be grazing animals or horses; do not disturb them), exit through the gate on the eastern side, and close it behind you again. You are now on a pleasant forest road. Follow it until it forks. Here, you will see an arrow pointing right (southeast) and another pointing straight (northeast).
The distance from Hässelmara to Ornöboda (5.7 km) brings you to this junction.
If you want to go to the ferry quay, take the path that goes straight ahead. You will reach the Ornöboda quay after about 1.1 km.
If you want to continue on the trail, follow the SAT markings to the right (southeast).
Ornöboda quay to Ornöboda Junction
1.1 km
Follow the forest road southwest until you reach the junction with a sign pointing left (southeast).
Ornöboda Junction to Ornö Church
9.4 km
From the junction, the trail follows a wide forest path until you reach rocky cliffs. Walk as quietly as possible past the houses and down toward the bay.
Follow the coast into Söderviken. Here, turn left, and after about 100 meters, turn right uphill, away from the water and the boat club. Follow the gravel path to the T-junction.
At the T-junction, turn left onto a forest road alongside residential plots. At the next Y-junction, keep right. A gentle downhill slope leads you to a marked right turn onto a trail about 600 meters from the boat club.
After about 50 meters, you will see a long wooden bridge to the left. Cross the bridge and follow the blue-marked trail to the right through the forest. This section is not marked with yellow/blue SAT signs.
After about 1.7 km, you will reach a gravel road at Fiversätra farm. Turn right (south). Here, the yellow/blue SAT markings reappear.
Walk 3.7 km on the gravel road until you reach a smaller gravel road that turns 90 degrees left. There are two houses in front of you on either side of the road.
Turn left along the edge of the field. The small road bends slightly to the right, passing a large collection of tractors. After about 250 meters, you will reach another gravel road at a four-way junction. Go straight ahead through the intersection.
After about 670 meters, you will reach the sea at Kyrkviken. Follow the gravel road gently uphill to the asphalt road.
At the asphalt road, the SAT trail continues across the road along the field and forest edge toward Ornö Church. You can also walk along the asphalt road to the left toward Ornö Church. If you choose this route, stay on the left side and be careful.
At Ornö Church, you will find the heritage center, tourist office, and museum along the asphalt road across from the parking lot.
You can also go directly down to the restaurant, shop, bread shop, and quay via the asphalt road between the parking lot and the church.
Ornö Church to the ferry quay via Lervassastigen
2.6 KM
We highly recommend that you visit the museum, and then continue past the school on the asphalt road for 300 meters until you see a sign on the left leading down to Lervassastigen.
This detour will take about 30 minutes to get back to the pier at Ornö Church, but it’s really worth it!
Follow Lervassastigen over the wooden bridge. Follow the SAT markings to the right. Through the forest down to the sea on the path. At the sea, follow the wide path to the left and then up, around the fence on a slightly more technical trail. From here, the trail follows the sea and the nature around the point. There are many places to stop and enjoy along the way.
The trail follows the sea until you come to a shorter wooden bridge. Cross it to the right and follow the path to the football field and then to the steamboat pier where you will find a bread shop, restaurant, and shop.
SOUTH FROM HÄSSELMARA QUAY
Hässelmara quay to Utsiktsberget
3 km
When you step off the boat at Hässelmara quay, you will see the bus stop in front of you on the right side. From there, you can take the bus to Lättinge via Ornö Church and Sundby Gård. The bus also goes north to Skinnardal, where it then turns south.
We will walk instead.
Up the short asphalt hill and to the T-junction where the asphalt road either goes south towards Ornö Church or north towards Skinnardal.
We go south, to the right on the asphalt road. After just 120 meters, a gravel road goes straight ahead at a curve in the asphalt road. Follow this gravel road straight ahead for about 1.3 km until it leads out onto a larger gravel road, which you follow to the right.
After about 700 meters, you will come to a SAT sign pointing to a trail going uphill towards a lookout mountain. Go up; it has an enormous view. The trail up is about 200 meters long. Enjoy the view before returning to the same place and continuing on the gravel road to the right.
Utsiktsberget to Kråkmora Gård
4.3 km
After about 200 meters, take the gravel road to the left. Down the hill, towards the water.
Almost at the water, turn left onto the narrower gravel road, past the road barrier. At the next intersection, turn right, heading towards the water again. Follow this walking path along the bay to the south.
Here, you come on to a yellow-marked trail.
There are no SAT markings until you reach Kråkmora Gård.
From the “trail center,” follow the yellow-marked trail for 3 km to Kråkmora. There, you will find SAT markings again.
Then follow these markings for a few hundred meters until they point to the left onto a trail at a SAT sign. Walk 100 meters on the trail until you reach a forest road with direction arrows both north and south.
If you are going to Ornö Church on SAT, you should go left, north. If you go right, towards the houses, you are heading towards Lättinge.
Towards Lättinge
900 meters from the above T-junction.
If you are going to Lättinge quay (Waxholms boat), or taking the bus to Ornö Church/Hässelmara or going to Skärgårdshotellet/Sundby B&B/Ornö Varv, turn right, south, on the unmarked forest road. After about 100 meters, you will reach the farm buildings at Kråkmora Gård. Pass carefully and continue along the gravel road down to the asphalt road. Be considerate of the property owner. At the asphalt road, Lättinge quay and the bus stop is to the right.
Accommodation options are to the left along the asphalt road. Walk on the left side of the road so you can see oncoming traffic, be careful.
Towards Ornö Church
9 km from the T-junction above.
As mentioned, turn left, north. Follow the SAT markings (also yellow markings) towards Mörby Gård. At the start, on the left (western) side of the field, then through the forest.
When you reach the next field after about 1.3 km, the markings will be red/blue together with SAT markings.
From the T-junction, it is about 2.2 km until you reach a SAT sign and a RIGHT arrow pointing onto a trail that does not have SAT markings. It is called “paketsnörestigen” (the package string trail), which goes straight east through the forest, past the northern end of Lervassa Träsk, about 1 km to a gravel road that continues in the same direction for 1.6 km until you reach the asphalt road north of Ornö Church. There, turn right, south.
After barely 100 meters you come to a trail on the right, also marked from the other direction (from the intersection just ahead of you). There, you will find a SAT sign as well.
Enter the trail to the right. It follows the field and then the forest edge for just over 1 km to Ornö Church. You could also follow the asphalt road to the left to Ornö Church. If you do, walk on the left side and be cautious.
At Ornö Church, you will find the local heritage center, the tourist office, and the museum along the asphalt road on the other side of the parking lot.
You can also walk directly to the restaurant, the store, Brödoden (the bread shop), and the quay via the asphalt road between the parking lot and the church.

Lättinge quay and Northward
If you step off the boat at Lättinge quay, you can take the bus to Ornö Church, Hässelmara, or Skinnardal. The bus passes the stops where you need to get off for the various accommodation options available. Of course, you can also walk the few kilometers.
If you are walking along the SAT trail from Lättinge quay, follow the asphalt road for 300 meters. Then, turn left onto the gravel road towards Kråkmora Gård.
Follow the gravel road and keep right for 400 meters until you come to the yellow trail, which goes both to the right and to the left by the barns.
If you go to the right, you will head north towards Mörby Gård and then to Ornö Church as described above. Lättinge quay to Ornö Church is just under 10 km.
If you go left instead, you will soon meet the SAT markings from behind, pointing east. Instead, continue north along the yellow-marked trail, and after 3 km, you will reach the trail center at Bodal, then the lookout mountain. If you continue following the SAT markings in the “wrong” direction, you will reach Hässelmara. There, you can choose to continue north on the northern SAT loop as described above or go down to Hässelmara quay and take the car ferry to Dalarö.
Lättinge to Hässelmara is approximately 8.5 km.
