In summer, you can disembark at the dock called Granö, but the most common stop is Arholma.
We start there.
We hike clockwise.
Ferry quay to 3-way junction
200 m
When you step ashore at the ferry quay, you will see the general store in front of you. Take the opportunity to shop supplies if you need.
Just south in the bay is the summer restaurant next to the dance pavilion.
In summer, it is a perfect stop when you return from your hike.
Follow the gravel road for 200 meters to the 3-way junction.
3-way junction to Arholma Nord
1.2 km
Take the gravel road north (left). After 400 meters, you will pass the campground located west of the road.
Continue straight on the gravel road for 650 meters until you reach a Y-junction.
There you will find Arholma Nord with the old military battery, lodging, and restaurant—250 meters straight ahead. It’s worth a visit.
SAT (Stockholm Archipelago Trail) continues east into the forest at the Y-junction, along a forest road.
Y-junction to Österhamn
4.6 km
Start walking on the forest road—note that it may be wet in spring. Head straight east. After 500 meters, SAT turns 90 degrees to the north.
The forest road becomes a trail. Follow it to the sea. The path meanders past beautiful cliffs before turning south after a wooden bridge.
Now, a beautiful path continues to a gravel forest road. Follow it a few hundred meters south before it becomes a trail again on the east side of the gravel road.
Now it is a scenic trail again. After 700 meters, do not miss when the trail forks onto a smaller path eastward at a Y-junction.
Follow it south along the eastern coastline. Continue past the memorial grove.
SAT then joins a gravel road which you follow to Österhamn.
Österhamn to 3-way junction at Granövägen
1 km
Follow the gravel road southwest from Österhamn to the main gravel road that runs between Granö and Arholma Nord.
Option 1 – the longer alternative
3-way junction to Granö and back
3.4 km
If you would like a longer option, follow the gravel road south to Granö ferry quay through beautiful scenery – 1.7 km.
From Granö ferry quay, you can take the Waxholm boat in summer, or walk back north to the 3-way junction – 1.7 km.
Option 2 – the shorter alternative
3-way junction to Arholma dock
1.5 km
From the 3-way junction, walk north on the gravel road.
After 350 meters, you will pass the Bull-August hostel on the west side of the road.
Just after Bull-August, a gravel road turns west (left). Follow it down to the sea.
Down by the water, you will soon see a sign pointing right (east) onto a trail that leads up to Båken (the lookout tower on the hill).
Follow the trail and “steps” for 150 meters up to Båken. Enjoy the view before following the trail down just east of Båken. It will lead you down the hill and then northward.
Freom Båken it is 400 meters to the summer restaurant by the dance pavilion, and another 150 meters to the general store and Arholma ferry quay.
