The busiest time of the year starts now

Between now and mid- August it is a very busy time in the Stockholm Archipelago. To be able to really enjoy the trail and the Archipelago it is important to consider the people around you and also for them to take your interests in to account. To be able to fully appreciate this time of the year you can find some helpful stuff below.

Last week the NorthSouth ferry line started to run again for the season. It also marks the start of the busiest time of the year along the Stockholm Archipelago Trail as the islands are in full vacation mode.

Between now and the middle of August is when most people visit the Stockholm Archipelago. 

THE NORTHSOUTH FERRY LINE

The North South Ferry line starts in Nynäshamn and in Norrtälje. The daily boats meet in Sandhamn before returning back to their starting points. From Nynäshamn it goes North in the morning and then South from Sandhamn in the afternoon. The boat that starts in Norrtälje and that returns from Sandhamn goes South in the morning and then back North in the afternoon. It gives you the opportunity to reach most sections of the Stockholm Archipelago Trail without going back to the mainland. 

SAT TRAVEL PLANNER

To facilitate all logistics along the trail we have done trials with a new travel planner for the past weeks. We have to say that we are very pleased with the results. You can plan multi- leg journeys, you can find food, water, toilets, accommodations and other facilities based on Open Source Data. It also gives you the opportunity to follow yourself along the track in offline mode and it helps you conserve battery on your phone by going into ”sleep mode” while being used. Check it out!

TRAIL ETHICS

During this busy period and always we ask you all to practice good trail ethics so we can continue with the Stockholm Archipelago Trail. 

  • Make sure you understand the ”Freedom to Roam” common law. As an example, It allows you to pass where there is a trail but it does not allow you to sit on someone’s porch or enter someone’s garden. 
  • Do not disturb people, flora and fauna. 
  • Be respectful of each other. 
  • Take all garbage with you and throw it on the mainland or at public garbage collection points. 
  • Use public toilets (the ferry is a great place to start) or in worst case, bury your natural waste and make sure to bring the paper with you. 
  • Close all gates to pastures, even if they are open. 
  • Do not light fires in other places than in fire pits. 
  • Leave no trace and take nothing but memories.
